Brave New World Response: 1
Equality in Brave New World is created in certain social groups. The equality in each social group is created by what everyone wheres and how they act. Everyone in a certain social group has the same clothes, and has been taught and educated the same way. This creates an equality between everyone in the group. At the same time however, they have been conditioned and taught that they are better than the other groups. For example, Lenina routinley states while having a casual conversation that, "I'm glad I'm not an Epsilon." (Huxley 85) this phrase has been repeated in her ear every night and now she just thinks it to be normal. This reduces conflict because it makes Lenina not want to interact with the Epsilons and it makes her not jealous either, and vice versa, Epsilons have been conditioned to think that way about Betas, and other groups. Also, since every body is taught the same ways since a little kid, there is no conflict because there are no clashing ideas in this society. Happiness has been created much like how conflict has been reduced between groups. They have been taught that they 'are happy' by conditioning them and whispering it to them at night. For example, Lenina echoes that everbody is happy now, and later in the paraagraph it explains how they have heard the words repeated a hundred and fifty times every night for twelve years (Huxley 86). By telling people that they are really happy, they start to believe it. This society is a dystopia because the society is brainwashed and imposed to do all these things like have sex, where certain clothes, and force themselves to believe they are happy. Since they have no freedom of will and must follow all orders from the government, this society becomes a facist and fake society.
