Propaganda, Persuasion, Rhetoric, and Argument

four quotes: 392, 425, 432, 501

The quote that stood out most to me out of these four was number 432 which says, "Men do not commonly see what is before their eyes or hear what rings in their ears unless it is pointed out to them in a tone of accepted authority and given public importance. LOUIS J. HALLE, Spring In Washington, 1963."

This quote is generalizing that all men cannot make a clear distinction of something unless it is clearly pointed out to them by someone of importance. Men can't and won't listen or be able to see something if a little person such as their wife or kid. What this quote fails to address is the people that aren't like this. Therefore the only men that would agree with this statement are men that have behavior such as proposed above. Why? Because the writer of this quote is of some accepted authority. He has writen several books and was very educated.

This argument offers the propaganda that men are shallow. Because if a women read this she would apply it to a man she knows, and if it fit then she would have to assume that men are shallow. This quote has no persuasion however, it is just an argument with no support at all. It just goes right out and says the 'truth'.
