The theme of the song is ignorance is bliss. For example, in the lyrics when the wives get the letter saying thatr their husbands died they were unhappy. Had they not received the letters they wouldn't have been sad. Also, it says that the celebrities lived horrible lives. If the American mass didn't have to listen to their lives 24/7 they would be happier.
