1984 Blog #2
Winston is having a struggle in wanting freedom and his obedience to Big Brother. Winston knows if he is caught he will die, and knows he will get caught. His small acts of defiance are hidden protests. Winston can question anything he wants, he sneaks around when he wants and his small defiances show his hatred towards Big Brother. He knows that there is something better to life than trying to please the party, and he is determined to find it. Winston's protests are very different from the Wall Street protests. Wall Street protestors are open. They have signs and posters displaying what they want. They are open about what they believe in. Winston is having an internal struggle, and he has to pretend to be normal so he doesn't get killed. Wall Street protestors are protesting for fairness and Winston wants freedom. The freedom he wants, however, is not possible in the form of government his state has. Both Winston and the Wall Street protests are protesting against someone that controls them and how they live daily life.
